What’s the point in using microForex?

To me, using a minimum lot size of 1,000 units seems like a waste of time. I’m just learning forex too and I was wondering if online brokers will allow you to buy large amounts of lots/contracts/volumes? - in some of the demo accounts I can only use up to like 8.

Is the system designed for beginners who want to learn forex and can easily shrug off risk by using such small pip costs?
