What to expect in Magaluf and Palma Nova on the Bay of Palma Majorca

May 18th, 2010

The holiday destination of Magaluf and the neighbouring resort of Palma Nova are based on the west coast of Palma Bay on the island of Majorca. The twin resorts are very close being just a 5 minute taxi trip or a 30 minute walk for those who prefer the exercise. A lot of the resorts in Majorca are dominated by either British or German holidaymakers. The resorts of Magaluf and Palma Nova themselves are very much British dominated favourites.

That said, these resorts will not attract the more sophisticated British visitors. Many people find Palma Nova and Magaluf Majorca very tacky and prefer quieter Mallorcan resorts such as Puerto Pollensa. Maybe not exactly a hotter version of Southend or Margate, but you may notice a few similarities. Most folks either love these resorts or dislike them with passion. Both Palma Nova and Magaluf offer numerous British owned and operated bars, sports bars and restaurants catering for the tastes of the major visitors in these resorts, the British tourists. These is no shortage of places serving a Full English Breakfast at amazingly low prices and no one will find it difficult to find somewhere to watch either live football or cricket, washed down with a pint of whatever you fancy or a properly brewed cup of tea. There is even can even visit a British Medical practice or a British dentists which can be found on the main street in Palma Nova. In truth, a Britain abroad for British people in almost all things apart from the weather which is safely forecast to be hot, hot, hot in Summer.

Magaluf is renowned as a party town. There are lots of clubs and bars where you can boogie the night away until daylight. Palma Nova is still quite a lively destination, but it is certainly a lot calmer than Magaluf and certainly more recommended for families who don’t want to be on holiday right in the centre of a party zone. Magaluf is also now a major resort for Hen and Stag groups. The behaviour in Magaluf does get somewhat lively to say the least in high season. Because Palma Nova is only a short bus/taxi ride or 30 minute stroll from Magaluf, so holidaymakers staying in Palma Nova Majorca will can experience the clubs and pubs of Magaluf rests within range. Magaluf and Palma Nova offer superb beaches of beautiful fine sand. There is plenty of natural shade from the tall pine trees at the Magaluf end of the beach in Palma Nova. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols available for rent on the beaches, though a little pricey in peak season. The tariff was 10.50 Euro for just two sun loungers and a sunshade in Palma Nova this summer.

Bus transfers from Palma Airport is estimated to take approximately 40 minutes to Magaluf or Palma Nova. Usually car rental from Magaluf or from Palma de Mallorca (PMI) airport is very competetive when compared with many other hotspots however rental rates in summer 2009 reached to silly levels because there was a shortage of cars to rent which caused a supply mismatch. If you intend to rent a car from the airport consider buying a map of Majorca before leaving.
